RE:   Summer Lacrosse

Dear Summit Futures Lacrosse Club Members/Players:

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this past summer lacrosse season and provide you an update of our plans for the Summit Futures Lacrosse Program in 2012.

We are currently in the process of organizing practice times, tournament schedules, and registration materials for summer 2012 and you can expect to receive that information by mid-late September, 2011.

We are anticipating a strong turnout for our next season as our Summit Futures Program builds on the successes we have established.   We will continue to work in the off-season on improvements to build on that success.

I would like to personally thank all of you for your support through the entire summer season/program.   Our numbers at each grade level were strong and I felt that each team improved significantly as the summer progressed.

Our program fielded teams at the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels, as well as our three (3) high school teams.   (We will continue to try and accommodate teams at all grade levels and we will only combine grades if the needs dictate).   All teams did quite well against strong competition with many of them winning or playing for tournament championships.  Our dedicated staff set goals of improving individual skills, encouraging team play at all times, and providing a positive experience for all grade levels.

As I made the rounds to all grades during practices and games , it was evident to me that we achieved those goals as each team played hard, developed team chemistry, and displayed sportsmanship in both victory and defeat.

In addition, our coaches, players, and parents supported our teams in a way that makes me proud to be part of the Summit Futures Lacrosse Program.

In past years, we have always competed evenly with the majority of the elite teams in these tournaments.  However, this year we established ourselves as a program that was successful at the highest levels of  summer competition.   Our coaches challenged our players to dedicate more of themselves throughout the summer and our teams responded.  The challenges our players faced  - and the lessons that they learned –  will help prepare each player and team for stiffer competition on the very competitive high school level.

Our high school team has experienced a fair amount of success over the years which can be directly attributed to the development of our players at the youth level.  Our future success will be the result of the hard work, dedication and the development of our Summit Futures Lacrosse Program.

Our goal is to continue to build a strong foundation, particularly at the lower grade levels, which will ultimately lead to future success at the high school level.  We will continue to bring dedicated coaches to our program, those who have a vested interest in the development of your son and the success of Summit Lacrosse. We believe that our “town team” concept is the model to pursue.   The sense of the individualism that dominates other Elite summer programs will never be a part of our philosophy.  We will continue to emphasize the importance of team and that individual needs are subservient to the broader goal.  We love working with your sons, seeing the spirit of our program continue to develop and the sense of commitment grow.

I am very proud of what we have accomplished these past two summers and I look forward to working with all of you again in the future.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at: jdavidson@fc.summit.k12.nj.us

Thank you again and have a safe and wonderful fall.
